We should all have a friend like my Lou. We don’t see each other very often anymore, but when we do the conversation and laughter flows like a wild river. We pitch down that crazy current together and share memories, dreams, heartaches, and outrage. There’s usually tears at some point, and something or another invariably gets spilled. But mostly, it’s laughter and awe that binds us through each other’s stories. We sift through nonsense, bounce past trivia, and take time to wallow in whatever comes up as we lay bare our thoughts about life… and little things, like shoes. This top reminds me of how I feel when I’m with my friend, Lou — open and joyful, maybe a little bit vulnerable, but completely and utterly beautiful and alive.

Trailblazer: Stephanie Florian

Founder and Fearless Leader, Play Outdoors Media Inc.

Passion for play and adventure, owner and media personality, Stephanie Florian was introduced to the great outdoors from childhood. Her parents owned Onondaga Camp, a successful summer camp for children and she was given the opportunity to inspire young people to enjoy life from the get go. Leading summer camps, teaching skiing and surfing, appearances on Global Television’s No Boundaries (finalist) and Wipeout Canada are just a few of the experiences that have led her into the media world and to become a self-employed outdoor adventure journalist.

A lengthy career in broadcast media, communications, sales and marketing has allowed Stephanie to work with some of the world’s top tier brands, businesses and media outlets and become an outdoor brand herself. From hosting and reporting on major market TV and radio stations and networks, anchoring Vancouver’s outdoor weather forecast and contributing to various outdoor and lifestyle publications, Stephanie believes in the endless benefits of living life to its fullest, outdoors.

Along with years of experience and expertise, her creative and catchy communication and story telling style has mass appeal. Play Outdoors Media offers an umbrella of media, marketing and sales services that cater to the active lifestyle community and its industry leaders – anyone looking to add a new adventure to their personal life or business venture. VisitPlayOutdoorsVancouver.ca for inspiration and adventure.

Most meaningful achievement: Parenting my two boys Cash and Presley are a daily achievement! Developing and launching my company – Play Outdoors Media – in additional to joining the CTV Vancouver News team as a weather specialist have been huge personal achievements. Weather and outdoor play are a natural fit.

Lessons learned: It’s a toss between patience and fear. I’m a go-getter so I want everything yesterday. When you do something that scares you – life really gets exciting.

Best advice: Trust. Follow the path of least resistance and let things unfold. Things DO happen for a reason. This can be a hard one in the thick of change but it’s so true.

The future is: out of our control. There is something exciting about the unknown.
